International Actors Studio is a school of acting that focuses
exclusively on training professional actors to work in the theatre, film and
television industry.
The aim of
the weekly classes is to build total and complete confidence in the actor's
ability and technique.
The program is designed as a complete training ground from beginner to full-time
professional actors. It is an on-going program and you can enter
at anytime. It takes two to four years to cover the full length of the program.
Most students are encouraged to participate for at least two years to profit
fully from the training. Students enter at different levels and there are
classes at all levels. There are no rules as to how fast a student can develop. It is entirely left up
to him or her depending on the willingness to grow and improve. The program does
make it possible to learn according to one's desire and commitment.
Stage, Film and Television techniques are all covered in depth.
Dramatic structures practiced are Cold Reading technique, Scene Study, Monologue
work and Improvisation. Click here for description of the International
Actors Studio training program.
The
classes are taught in a fun, supportive, professional and committed environment.
The students at all levels are encouraged and trained to take acting on as a
self-realization and artistic path for the long run. The coaching is strong,
direct and from the heart. The classes are no substitute for psychology or
therapy sessions, and humiliation techniques are never used to get results from
students. Instead, the method of delivery is respectful of the individual,
graceful, relaxed and entertaining. The coach does not make empty promises of
success and stardom, but rather aims at building the actor's confidence through
acquiring solid skills and a clear understanding and investment in the craft.

Full program includes:
Film Craft,
Acting
for Film and Television
This class introduces acting students to the language and grammar of filmmaking.
This includes an understanding of shot language, eye lines, screen direction,
camera movement. Film Craft aims to help the actor communicate
more effectively with directors and increase their understanding of the film
medium. Also covers
techniques of acting for the camera,
movements, expressions and simple things like hitting marks, continuity, staying in frame, audition
technique, practicing of concepts and techniques for camera set-ups and
coverage.
This class
also covers how to overcome the technical and stylistic demands
made on actors working in films and television. What do actors do when they are
thrown into the maelstrom of the set? How must performances be adjusted when a
few feet from the camera and crew, instead of a theater audience? How do actors
move to precise marks and deliver the same line take after take and make it real
each time?
Relaxation methods and scene analysis will be taught as they apply to film and
television acting. Scenes from film scripts will be analyzed for blocking. The
class also covers how actors must maintain a consistent emotional through-line from
scene to scene, even while shooting out of sequence. Other topics addressed
include imaginary eyelines, the actor's business in the film world, and
understanding the responsibilities and challenges of the crew on set.
Exercises on video help students develop techniques for rehearsing, reading,
auditioning, and creating a meaningful performance before the camera.
Scene study, Scene
and Monologue Work
Students work with original and published material using applications of The
Method.
Class covers fundamentals of character development through identifying
objectives, obstacles, and tactics as you study scenes. Emphasis is placed on
developing your listening, interacting and reacting skills while you work with
your scene partners. Observations, improvisation and creative images. Scenes
are extensively rehearsed and performed.
Through improvisation, script analysis and emotional preparation you work on
character development, transitions, motivation and listening. Emphasis is also placed
on being honest to yourself and "Getting out of your head." Students
receive critiques and adjustments from the instructor and fellow students. Voice
and breathing: Students are taught a repertoire of exercises that
increase mental and physical awareness, improve body alignment, and stimulate
natural, reflexive breathing. Students study how to open channels in the body
that control the vibrations, resonance, and range of the human voice.
Yoga can be used as an invaluable addition to the actor's craft, helping to
develop the actor's health and physical and spiritual relaxation abilities. Yoga
warms the actor up for the day's work. Through Yoga, the body/mind can be
brought into a state of balance and clarity, allowing the actor to more
effectively find and be his or her character.
Movement: This class directs the actor’s attention towards the body as an instrument of
expression. Students train in uncovering and developing natural movement, and
learn how to control inhibitory feelings.
Improvisation (workshops)
Improvisation is very important for film, TV and theater performances.
Improve your skills in all aspects of improvisation. Work in the class includes
building your confidence, loosening up for auditions, being more spontaneous,
creating characters, and taking more chances.
Audition Techniques
Some of the classes will be dedicated to audition techniques, handling the often nerve-wracking experience of
the audition, most important steps and aspects of getting a job.
Additional
classes may be offered.
